Overlooking a quiet city profiled by one of the highest
mountain range in the world; lies the Anapurna range. Green, spiritual and
varied, Pokhara offers what is asked: adrenaline for the brave and relaxation
for the less daring. Pokhara is the home for enthusiasts of adventure sports
and nature alike.
Two hundred kilometers separate Kathmandu, capital of Nepal
from Pokhara. But to reach the destination, a seven hour bus ride is needed.
You can travel by airways too; just book any flight to the city from Kathmandu
in any domestic airline.
The journey is not long and many come to Pokhara for a short
stay. Each day, groups of trekkers go out of the city for expeditions, which
can occupy several weeks in the Himalayan trekking trails. The scope of the
venture will depend on the physical form of the traveler and the Nepali cohort
of assistants one can hire on arrival (the famous Sherpas who carry backpacks
and guide your adventures). One cannot reach Mount Everest from here, but three
of the ten highest peaks in the world, Dhaulagiri, Annapurna I and Manaslu, all
over eight thousand meters can be reached.
Fortunately, you need not subscribe to the gym to be
prepared to come to Pokhara. The city is also a good place to take a break and
enjoy the life concentrated in the tourist area of Lake Side, on the Shore of
Phewa Lake, for "fun, music and food," as the local billboards
proclaim. And it is true; in the main street, all establishments are meant for
tourists. However, of all the stores selling trekking equipments, it’s really
easy to find international brand clothing in such stores, in the adjoining
shop, very few are legitimate brands. This city, being one of the major centers
for tourism in Nepal is equipped with everything to make your stay here
memorable.
