The streets look deserted and we, the Adventure Trekking Family, would like to remind all out valuable clients and potential customers that the situation is expected to get worse in the coming couple of days as the deadline set for formulation the Constitution is 22nd January, 2015.

We would like to remind all our guests who are already in Nepal and are in hotels at Kathmandu to stay at the hotel today and transportation will be arranged for tomorrow. For those who are on treks, they can continue with their adventure.

We would also like to express our sincere apologies to all for any inconvenience caused today and would also like to assure that things will return to normal as soon as the strikes are called off.

Kathmandu Valley - More than the capital city

Nepal is not just about the Himalayas, Snow Capped Mountains and Trekking. Though Trekking in Nepal is the most popular tourist activity by a long way, it does not mean that there are not enough monuments and heritage sites in Nepal. The capital city, Kathmandu Valley, on its own has some 130 plus historically and culturally important monuments. So for those who do not wish to climb do trekking in Nepal, a cultural tour to these remarkable places within the Kathmandu Valley can be equally soothing.

Kathmandu Valley Trek, one of various Trekking in Nepal options that we offer to our clients is an example of things that can be done in Kathmandu. There are a lot more things to be indulged with during your stay in Kathmandu. Take sightseeing for example. For the ones who love culture and heritage, there are seven groups of monuments and buildings within the Kathmandu Valley which reflect the full range of historic, cultural and artistic achievements which make Kathmandu famous throughout the globe. These seven incredible heritage sites are:

i) The Hanuman Dhoka Durba Square
ii) Patan Durbar Square
iii) Bhaktapr Durbar Square
iv) Buddhist Stupa at Swayambhu
v) Buddhist Stupa os Boudhanath
vi) Hindu Temple of Pashupatinath
vii) Hindu Temple of Changu Narayan

There are a lot more temples and stupas in Kathmandu, a man once said "There are more temples in Kathmandu than the houses". It did stand true some decades ago but with centralization and increasing population of Kathmandu this has remained a saying. Nevertheless it does highlight the cultural and traditional values of the capital city of Nepal. Be it for just a hike around the hills of the valley or for a world heritage tour, Kathmandu is the destination one can not miss out on especially if one seeks to know about the traditions of Nepal.

Trekking in Nepal - Mani Rimdu Trek

Trekking in Nepal is not just about snow and panoramic views of the highest mountains on the world, Nepal has a lot more to offer especially when it comes to the cultural and traditional aspects. As Local Outfitter in Nepal, we take it as our responsibility to bring the culture of tradition of Nepal and our local communities like Sherpa Community which has a huge contribution to the mountaineering industry in front of the whole world. The Mani Rimdu Trek is designed for both cultural insight and the ultimate trekking in Nepal experience.

The most important festival of the native Sherpa Community high in the Himalayas is Mani Rimdu and it is held during the tenth lunar month of the Tibetan calendar, corresponding to October–November months. In the Autumn Season of Trekking in Nepal, very large groups of tourists visit the Khumbu Region for Everest Base Camp Trek (EBC Trek) and also to witness the remarkable and culturally significant festival which lasts for nineteen days. The religious festivities involve ceremonies and meditation popularly known by locals as Drupchen. The meaning attributed to "Mani Rimdu" is that ‘Mani’ means “part of the chant of Chenrezig” and ‘Rilbu’ or ‘Rimdu’ means small red pills that are blessed during the festival. The red pills are blessed repeatedly and then distributed to all those who attend. This spectacular festival full of dances and culture is sure to leave everyone spellbound.

The Mani Rimdu festival is a tradition passed on from its mother monastery, the Rongbuk. Mani Rimdu Festival begins with an elaborate depiction of the mandala diagram made with colored sand. This sand is extracted from a specified location in the hills of Khumbu Region. The mandala usually takes four days to draw; it is then covered and is central to the religious festival that lasts for the next 10 days. When all the devotees leave, the monks perform a fire rite to dispel all harm to the world. Towards the end of the Mani Rimdu Festival, the resident Tengboche Rinpoche of the monastery blesses the general public after which the 'Mask Dances' popularly known as Mani Rimdu Dance are performed by the monks.

In this remarkable trek, we will follow the route of Everest Base Camp Trek (EBC Trek) and reach as high as 5,545 meters above the sea level and the Everest Base Camp as well. When the cultural significance is added on to the panorama of the Everest Region of Nepal, nothing compares to this trek. This is simply the Ultimate Trekking in Nepal Experience.
